According to new data, people living in four South Asian countries - Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan - lose an average of five years of life due to air pollution. A recent World Health Organization study suggests that air pollution levels exceed safe limits almost everywhere in the world, with at least 9 out of 10 people worldwide living in places with poor air quality. Small dust particles (PM2.5) are particles in the atmosphere with diameters less than 2.5 micrometers that pose the greatest risk to human health, reducing the average life expectancy of the average person by approximately 2.3 years. People living in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia are significantly more likely to die from outdoor air pollution. The death rate is approximately 100 times higher than in Europe and North America.
